band: The Quiet Room. song: In -
synthpop, midtempo, goth, histrionic. Someone is going to fill the skulking room with their blood. The pain will end tonight.
band: The Skoptzies, song: Pitfall -
noise, distortion, synths, gothy, indecipherable lyrics. Very lofi. "Dragon's breath". There might be a guitar.
band: The Unopened Present, song: Loyalty -
drums, guitar, bass, vocals. Probably recorded on a boombox. They are probably trying to sound like The Cure. "When eyes make tears, I will jump through hoops." Rhymes "loyalty" with "royalty."
band: Eternal Concessions, song: Sex Ghouls -
synthesizers, guy saying "Sex Ghouls." Then he just starts saying "Sex." Then he asks, "What are you?" He answers, "Sex Ghouls." Then some riffing and a ghoul chorus. Lots of random ranting, interspersed with "Sex Ghouls." The creator of this piece does not want to work a full time job, or leave the house in the day. You can meet the Sex Ghouls at midnight. He likes black lipstick. NSFW commentary. "You're not a sex ghoul baby, you're a toadstool." Instructions for how to interact with a sex ghoul. "Did you go to school to become a sex ghoul?" The question remains unanswered. scatting.
band: The Skoptzies, song: Dead Meat
drum machine, bass (with flange). This is a pretty good bassline. "Rub a dub dub, a dead man's tub." Then the song sort of loses interest in itself.
band: The Konstruktivits [sic], song: Ice -
I believe this is an instrumental. A goth instrumental. Surf goth? A genre that should exist, but this is awful.
band: Mental Anguish, song: Death of Stench -
8 bit feel. Total stereo separation. Yelling "Stench of Death", then yelling, "Death of Stench", then just yelling. I believe the mental anguish is real. I couldn't make it through this one.
band: Bene Gesserit, song: Funny Toy -
Casio sound. I feel safe assuming the funny toy is a vibrator. Starts out semi-coherent, then like many songs on this cassette, they just sing the title over and over. But it's half-good.
band: The Louvre, song: Something to be Learned
Prince guitar, and then moaning lyrics. More new wave than punk, noise, or goth. Mid 80's synthy pop feel. Really nice bridge. This band had potential. Fade out...
band: If Bwana, song: Captive Plastic -
Literal Casio drumbeat. Then indecipherable noise.
band: Macroglossia, song: Methyl Isocyanate
Casio click track, and then some sort of drum machine with horrendous synth, and maybe a bass. There could even be a live drummer in there. Instrumental. Endless and bizarre. I don't know how they got drum machines to be out of time in such a way that a real, bad drummer would be.
